Ever have one of those outings when you fear that it could be a disaster, but then surprisingly everything falls into place? I had one of those experiences yesterday. I needed to make a stop at Linton’s on CR 17 in Elkhart to pick up a few plants for around the garden. I figured the outside part of the trip would go okay because they were really excited to see the animals. No cooperation, no animals!! It is the trip inside the gift shop that had me nervous. Lots of breakables and four children 8 and under make for an exciting situation! My three year old is into touching everything and ignoring any requests not to do so. Add to that the fact that I wanted to look around and the situation is even more “exciting”. So with a firm reminder that they were not to touch anything, in we went.
We wandered through the entire store without incident. A few quiet reminders not to touch was all it took. I was able to look around and pay for our purchases without incident. Wow!! It was one of those moments that made me feel good about my job as a parent. I must not be doing that badly if they have the ability to behave that well!!
On a side note, I would like to mention how outstanding the staff at Linton’s was yesterday. They were super friendly and helpful. They interacted with the kids. They helped my son get a wagon, engaged them in conversation, and made a special effort to tell them good-bye when we left. As a mom, it is that extra effort with my kids that will keep me coming back.
